WELCOME

Thank you for visiting SarahMaloney.org to learn more about me and the services I offer…

When people are seeking therapy they often wonder whether their therapist will be a “good fit.” Although that might be impossible to tell until we get started together, knowing a bit about me might be useful.

I think of my style as being collaborative in nature; I’d like help from you to determine what your treatment goals are and I will offer my feedback about this as well. I’m most interested in finding out what you need help with and what’s standing in the way. I don’t do homework or workbooks, though I will often ask you to think and reflect about certain behaviors and thought and feeling patterns between sessions. In that way my approach is cognitive-behaviorally oriented but I generally just describe my style as humanistic and relatable.

In my 27 years practicing social work, I have lived on two coasts, and completed a fellowship in substance abuse and worked extensively in outpatient and inpatient settings dealing with depression and anxiety, addiction issues and eating disorder treatment. I have had extensive training in couples therapy, and as noted on my home page, I have many years of experience in Portland helping parents of high conflict divorce learn co-parenting
communication skills.

I have a BA from Hampshire College and an MSW from University of Washington School of Social Work. I completed a Substance Abuse Fellowship from the University of Washington and the VA Hospital in Seattle, Washington and have been practicing in Maine since 1998.
